Constructed Wetlands

Fourth Element plans and designs wetlands as part of the treatment train for urban, industrial and mining drainage and process water systems. Some of these are designed with targeted ecological and amenity function. But others require a more dedicated treatment focus and take the form of the highly engineered constructed wetland.

Our current project on the Kaalspruit in Johannesburg/Ekurhuleni is required to treat sediment, litter and dry high sewage loads in the Dry Weather Flow. The scheme will be over 60ha and will treat streamflow from a 100km2 densely populated catchment of Tembisa.
